Eye allergy, also called allergic conjunctivitis, is very common. It occurs when the eyes react to something that irritates them. People with an eye allergy also tend to have a nasal allergy, with itching, congestion, and sneezing. In general, it is a temporary condition associated with seasonal allergies.
Allergens cause many eye allergies. These allergens include:
• pollen from grass, trees, and ragweed
• dust
• pet dander
• mold
• smoke
Allergic reactions to perfumes, cosmetic drugs can also cause the eyes to have an allergic reaction.
It is important to attend an ophthalmologist to determine the cause and treatment of the eye allergy.
