The Espaillat Cabral Institute offers eye care to patients whose limited economic resources prevent access to specialized health services with advanced technology. Since its inception, the Institute has treated thousands of patients in consultation, has performed the necessary diagnostic tests and has carried out surgical procedures at no cost to patients in need.
Most of our medical staff is or has been involved in training programs for new doctors and voluntarily work through various institutions.
Another aspect of our social responsibility commitment for the past four decades is the contribution to the formation of human capital in our country, sharing knowledge and practices with new generations of ophthalmologists.
From our first day, the Institute's facilities have served as a classroom for doctors seeking excellence in ophthalmic medical practice. We currently offer:
* Medical internship program. Every year fresh medical graduates –with top grades– are chosen to serve their one-year medical internship at the Espaillat Cabral Institute. These internships are endorsed by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MISPAS) and the costs are covered by the Espaillat Cabral Institute.
* Fellowship Program for Cataract and Refractive surgery. Offered in conjunction with Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), this program is open for postgraduate students who have completed their medical specialty in ophthalmology, have completed a residency program recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) –of more than three (3) years, who are interested in developing a theoretical and practical program that will allow them to acquire the necessary skills to successfully perform procedures to correct blindness caused by cataracts, and refractive laser procedures.
