It is the presence of blood under the conjunctiva, generally in a single sector of the eye.

Symptoms

Red eye, usually asymptomatic.

Etiology

Valsalva maneuver (sneezing, constipation or any form of tension)
Trauma
Bleeding disorders
Arterial hypertension
Idiopathic

Treatment is usually not necessary, artificial tears may be prescribed if there is mild eye irritation, it usually resolves spontaneously in 2 to 3 weeks.
