Can stress affect your vision?
19 August 2019
In addition to vision loss, stress can affect our eyes in other ways, the most common being eye tics or eye inflammation.
Tics usually occur as a slight and uncontrollable tremor in the upper eyelid. It is known as orbicular myochemy and is the most frequent manifestation of stress in our eyes. It is an involuntary movement that is usually activated in stressful situations, in which we release a hormone called catecholamine.
In the case of retinal inflammations, it usually corresponds to a central serous maculopathy (benign inflammation of the macula). People who suffer from it often have blurred vision and sometimes they can suffer sudden loss of vision. We therefore recommend that, before any of these symptoms, you immediately go to your ophthalmologist.
