Cataract is the total or partial opacification of the lens (natural lens of the eye), which progressively reduces vision.
It is normally associated with age, although it can be congenital or caused by trauma. This may be the reason why a sharp image becomes blurred, bright colors fade or night vision decreases.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to prevent cataract and no medication, diet or laser can eliminate it.The definitive treatment for cataract remains surgical. This procedure consists of the extraction of the opaque lens, replacing it with a state-of-the-art artificial intraocular lens (IOL), which may have different focusing capabilities regarding far, medium and / or near vision. Thanks to advances in medical technology, cataract surgery is a painless and quick outpatient procedure with minimal risk and a speedy recovery. The most advanced technique used in cataract surgery is the femtosecond laser (a femtosecond is a billionth of a second) which allows the procedure to be customized to the eye of each patient.
Remember to visit your ophthalmologist if you notice changes in your vision.
