Espaillat Cabral receives international quality reaccreditation
The Espaillat Cabral Institute, which in 2019 became the first Dominican health center to receive the HFAP international quality accreditation, has received a new certification from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) of the United States.
This second global certification granted to the prestigious ophthalmology specialty center founded in Santo Domingo in 1970 comes after the historic merger of the entities that regulate the provision of clinical services in the United States.
Achieving the HFAP and ACHC Health Quality accreditations marks a milestone in national medicine, as both certifications recognize medical centers that meet or exceed the international standards required in the practice of medicine with a special focus on patient safety.
Achieving this distinction is only possible after exhausting a rigorous multi-year process that covers numerous stages of independent evaluation, including external audits.
By conferring the new accreditation, the ACHC certifies that the Espaillat Cabral Institute meets all medical quality guidelines in regulatory and operational areas, which include best practices in maintenance processes and updating of medical equipment, infrastructure, practice guides and clinical protocols based on international scientific evidence, clinical histories, sterilization and infection control processes, excellence in the operating room, confidentiality of personal data and diagnostic and procedural information, as well as post-surgical follow-up.
Compliance with international Health Quality standards ensures that patients at facilities certified by the ACHC, such as the Espaillat Cabral Institute, receive excellent and consistent care throughout the entire diagnosis and treatment process, including the verification that the patients show visual results comparable to the best ophthalmology clinics worldwide.
Following the merger with HFAP, the ACHC further consolidates its position as one of the leading accreditors of health centers in the United States, with more than 100 years of combined experience in certifying facilities that operate under the Medicaid and Medicare systems in that country.
The Espaillat Cabral Institute is the first ophthalmology clinic and the first center dedicated to a single medical specialty in the Dominican Republic, and for more than half a century it has been a national and regional benchmark in the area of ophthalmology.
In addition to the endorsement received in all its processes, the physical plant of the Espaillat Cabral Institute –whose architectural plans were reviewed by the Joint Commission International– complies with the international standards applied to hospital buildings in the United States.
These achievements confirm that the Espaillat Cabral Institute consolidates itself as a leader in quality of ophthalmological medical services in the region, offering its patients a humane, ethical and personalized treatment, meeting the highest global standards.
In addition to its local patients covered by the main insurance companies in the country, the Espaillat Cabral Institute receives patients referred by international insurers, in addition to its social responsibility program to care for low-income patients.
